Keeping the new season of Spring/Summer 2021 in fashion focus, Ritu Kumar’s new line presented by TRESemmé was a colourful medley of hues at the joint phygital seasonless FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week March 16 – 21. It was very evident that Ritu Kumar had a firm hold on Indian craftsmanship as she merged contemporary silhouettes with her characteristic touches. Bringing the most luxurious soothing fabrics to centre stage, it was Ritu Kumar’s expertise with surface detailing that added sophistication with a marked sense of simplicity to the garments.

The designs and the aesthetic of the collection by Ritu Kumar complement this year’s theme ‘Mismatched’ beautifully, “while also staying true to the theme and our vision for hair styling. We’re sure that this collaboration helps create something truly beautiful to be showcased on the virtual ramp of FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week.”

Commenting on Ritu Kumar’s association with TRESemmé India for the very first phygital fashion show presented by FDCI X LFW, Mr. Amrish Kumar, Managing Director, Ritu Kumar said, “TRESemmé India is synonymous with unmatched style and quality when it comes to understanding hair products and styling. We’re excited to partner with a brand that recognises our aesthetics and is able to enhance our collection with their vision in hairstyling”.

The partnership between FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week to present the first phygital showcase is a milestone moment for the Indian fashion industry. A quick turnaround in adapting to changing times coupled with the support of both teams enabled us to present our vision to audiences across the globe. We’re extremely pleased with the showcase!”
The highlight of the ensembles from the Spring/Summer 2021 season was the stylish blend of modern minimalism with the boho touch. To keep the theme in creative control, Ritu Kumar included a variety of yarn dyes, that brought in a bit of mix and match possibilities. The designer then showcased vibrant, floral prints and added some clever patchwork, with an amalgamation of laces, to finally end with intricate geometric designs. Offering a wide choice to the contemporary fashion-forward woman, the collection comprised a youthful suit line, followed by great-looking soya fabric saris worn in amazing drapes, along with some of the fun-filled, geometric range options.

The film opened with an utterly feminine, cutaway shoulders, printed, drop-waist creation and then moved to an asymmetric, grey, embroidered tunic that offered stylish comfort. Printed capes appeared over soft flowing midis; a pin-tucked yoke dress was demure in style, while the maxi with a tasselled scarf at the waist made a fashion statement.

The empire line, fluid dress with rear tie-ups, a striking black/white abstract print top with draped pants, a lounge-worthy kaftan and shirt dress sporting a tiny collar, cinched at the waist with a scarf brought fashionable variety to the collection. The dhoti pants with a robe and the cuffed ankle salwars were stylishly presented with a tunic. The soya fabric saris created a stir when they appeared in the most unconventional and unique styles with a colourful fantasy of colour and prints. From draped pleats at the back, to creatively cinched at the waist versions, the saris were one of the highlights of the collection and almost resembled beautiful ensembles.

Ritu Kumar kept the hemline at the midi level to allow the fluid silhouettes to swirl around the models. The scarf was the prime accessory in prints, plain or tasselled and appeared around the neck or the waist in a variety of styles that almost resembled a cummerbund at times. Sleeves were given special attention for the coming season, as they moved from bell shapes, dolman and drop shoulder to long, flowing versions, and then turned into batwing options or ballooned into feminine forms.

When it comes to fashion that is timeless but practical and trendy, Ritu Kumar’s latest Spring/Summer 2021 collection presented by TRESemmé, had all the perfect requirements for the well-dressed woman who wants to make a show-stopping entry.
