Stepping into a triathlon role was no ordinary task, especially for someone who had never swum before and had a deep-seated fear of water. Kher shared, “I never knew swimming at all. For this film, I learned swimming because it’s a triathlon film based on all three forms: swimming, cycling, and running. I have aquaphobia, so getting into the water was tough. But I am very happy that my swimming coach, Farzan, did a great job. At least he took away the fear of water from my mind. I’m continuing with my swimming lessons, even after the film has wrapped.”
In addition to learning how to swim, Kher also faced the challenge of physically preparing for the entire triathlon. Reflecting on the process, Kher added, “This film has been very difficult. It has been both physically and mentally challenging; more so physically because we are making a film about a man who is 69 years old. In terms of preparation, to do something like this, you have to be physically fit so I’ve been training regularly because the triathlon includes 1.5 km of swimming, 40 km cycling, and 12 km running. It’s a great opportunity for me to push myself, and I thank Akshay, Maneesh, Netflix and YRF for giving me the chance to do something like this.”
As audiences watch Vijay 69, they’ll not only enjoy the heartwarming and humorous tale of an ageing man taking on a triathlon but also witness Kher’s
